Abstract
This research examines the material and historical significance of Chill Terminal 002, a prototype of media art installation from Gerald van der Kaap’s Chill Cave (1992), housed at the Eye Filmmuseum. Drawing on archival materials, literature, condition analysis, case studies, and artist interviews, it reveals the artwork’s deterioration relative to its desired state. The study proposes tailored conservation approaches to preserve its historical value and the artist's intention within the Chill Cave, which is a Gesamtkunstwerk.
